We will sing two 30-minute sets in the very early hours of the morning on Sunday October 6: the 1st set at 12:15am and the 2nd set at 1:00am, in a Mongolian yurt located on the museum grounds. It promises to be a beautiful and magical event – we hope to see you there!

Mongolian yurt at Aga Khan Museum Nuit Blanche

About Sama: Experience music and art from around the world in intimate settings — including Mongolian yurts and a First Nations’ teepee. Sama, Arabic for listening, is the night’s inspiration, and you will be invited to listen to the rhythms and stories of artists whose roots extend around the globe.

Each setting will offer a different experience, including a space dedicated to the music of a sleepless city. Another will feature distinct musical languages from cross-cultural experiments. And yet another site will take you deep into urban life with a virtual reality installation.

Sacred spiritual music and dance, including whirling dervishes, in quiet locations will evoke the city’s contemplative side.

Finally, the outdoor areas will play host to an illuminated sound installation, offering you the chance to experience art while feeling the pulse of the arrivals and encounters that shape this city.

Yale Russian Chorus with Darbazi

About the Yale Russian Chorus:
The Yale Russian Chorus is a tenor-bass a cappella choral ensemble specializing in sacred and secular Slavic choral music. The chorus members are Yale University students from a variety of academic disciplines. Founded in 1953 by Denis Mickiewicz, a Yale student at the time, the YRC is recognized as one of the world’s premier performance ensembles of Slavic music today.

Their repertoire spans the 12th to the 21st centuries, with origins across Eastern Europe from Slovakia to Georgia. They sing a variety of sacred and secular settings, including ancient chant, folk songs, and works by Tchaikovsky, Bortnyansky, Kedrov, and Chesnokov. Recordings of the Yale Russian Chorus have been placed on the New York Times critics’ choice list, and described as a ‘must-have recording’ by National Public Radio’s Performance Today.
